        Overview


        Civil Engineering

        The Civil Engineering of theSchoolof Urban Construction includes four cultivation fields, i.e., Steel Structure Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Roads and Bridge Engineering. The Civil Engineering Specialty is a top specialty in Zhejiang and a characteristic specialty of “the 13thfive-year plan” of regular institutions of higher learning in Zhejiang, and has been selected into the top discipline of the “13th five-year plan” in Zhejiang (Type B).

        Civil Engineering is a scientific technology about design, construction, operation and maintenance of various types of buildings and infrastructures such as houses, bridges, tunnels, subways, railways, urban railways and roads. The professional talent cultivation objective is to cultivate senior innovative applied talents who can master basic theories and professional skills about civil engineering and can work on construction, management and design works of civil engineering after graduation, with solid foundation of natural science and certain knowledge of humanistic and social science, with basic training about the professional ability of related registered engineers in our country.

        Characteristics and advantages of the specialty: The applied teaching mode “with emphasis on both theories and practice” is adopted during the construction of the Civil Engineering Specialty of theSchoolof Urban Construction. With the teaching characteristics of “combination of industry and university, and cooperation between universities and enterprises”, Civil Engineering Specialty works together with more than 20 enterprises to establish the industry-university-research cooperation bases and improve the practical teaching system, to cultivate senior applied talents with “capacities of construction, design and management”. The Specialty was the first to operate the Steel Structure Cultivation Field in the province, to form the “government-university-guild-enterprise” applied talent cultivation mode with in-depth cooperation between leading enterprises and universities and colleges, and construct the first institute of steel structure industry in the province, to effectively improve employment competitiveness of students, and the graduates of the specialty are popular in related enterprises. In addition, the specialty lays emphasis on innovative ability of students and organizes students to participate in high-level discipline contest, and was awarded with the first prize of “National Contest of Structural Design of Undergraduates” in 2018 and 2019. The specialty has been awarded with first prize in contests such as Zhejiang Contest of Structural Design of Undergraduates, Contests of Dynamics and Zhejiang Contest of BIM Application of Undergraduates.

        The Specialty has a series of symbolic construction achievements such as the provincial second prize of teaching results, provincial teaching team, provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. In addition, the Specialty has one national top course, two provincial top courses and multipleindustry-academy cooperation education projects by the Higher Education Division of Ministry of Education, provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, provincial education reform projects and provincial new-shape teaching materials, with abundant education reform achievements.

        Employment prospects: Students can work on construction, design and management in fields such as building engineering, road engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnical tunnels and underground engineering after systematic training of four years. Graduates of the specialty are popular in famous enterprises due to solid professional knowledge, strong practical ability, high comprehensive quality and tough spirits. The employment rate of the specialty always ranks top in the whole university, as well as the professional counterpart rate and the employment quality. The average employment rate of the recent three years is 97.23%.

        Architecture

        Integrated with technologies and arts, the specialty aims to cultivate senior applied architectural design talents and construction management talents with corresponding knowledge with the professional learning of five years. With knowledge in architectural design, urban design and indoor design, students can work on design in design departments, and have vocational adjustment abilities. The courses involve in various fields such as science, engineering, culture, social sciences and arts. The courses of the specialty are closely related to current conditions and dynamic information of the current building industry by highlighting regional economic characteristics. Students with foundation of fine arts are suggested to register for examination of the specialty.

        Characteristics and advantages of the specialty: The specialty pays attention to cultivation of applied talents with engineering practice ability in the architecture. It lays emphasis on “technologies and practice”. With the learning of the specialty, students can master basic theories and basic knowledge on aspects such as architecture design, urban planning and construction engineering technologies, with basic training on aspects such as architecture design, with basic abilities on aspects such as project planning, architecture design schemes and architecture construction drawings. The students of the specialty have been awarded with one second prize in National Contest of Building Information Model (BIM) Application for Students of Universities and Colleges, two special-project second prizes; the students of the specialty have been awarded with one third prize in National Contest of Architectural Design Schemes of Students of Universities and Colleges and five third prizes of Zhejiang Contest of Architectural Design of Students of Universities and Colleges.

        Urban and Rural Planning

        As the first batch of undergraduate specialty of the institute, the Urban and Rural Planning Specialty is an emerging comprehensive specialty developed during the urbanization progress, which is integrated with urban planning, rural planning, urban design, urban management, architectural design and landscape architecture design. The special has the following talent training objective: cultivating senior applied talents who master integrated specialty knowledge of “cities, landscapes and architecture” with the knowledge background of science and engineering, humanity and arts to meet demands on urban and rural construction.

        Characteristics and advantages of the specialty: based on construction and development of human settlement environment in Zhejiang, the specialty aims to cultivate new-type talents of urban and rural planning meeting requirements on theories of modern urban and rural planning. On the basis of mastering fundamental special theories and core skills, the specialty gives play to the advantages of the subject group of architecture, landscape architecture and engineering technologies, and responds to the characteristic requirements of “laying emphasis on application, highlighting design and strengthening practice”, and deepens overall planning, rural planning, regulatory plan, residential district planning and design, as well as urban design, and lays emphasis on computer drawing ability. The specialty aims to construct the perfect practical teaching system, to increase the proportion in credit hours of practical courses. By utilizing discipline laboratories in the institute and multiple practical teaching bases out of the institute, the specialty strengthens students’ ability in dealing with practical problems. The students have received many prizes in specialty contests in recent years. The students of the specialty have been awarded with one third prize and four excellent work prizes in National Contest of students’ Homework of Urban Planning Universities and Colleges, and have been awarded with three third prizes in Zhejiang Contest of Rural Planning and Innovation Design for Undergraduates, and have been awarded with many second prizes and third prizes in Zhejiang “Challenge Cup” Contest of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Undergraduates.

        Employment prospects: With the background of new-type urbanization and rural revitalization strategies, there have been huge development potential and space for the urban and rural planning industry, with demand gap in related professional and technical personnel. The students of the specialty can work on engineering design on aspects of urban and rural planning and architectural design in urban and rural planning and design institutes, urban planning centers, architecture or landscape design institutes or real estate companies; or they can work on management in urban and rural planning management departments (Bureau of planning and natural resources), architectural management departments and urban management departments. The employment rate of the recent 3 years achieves at least 98.2%.

        The graduates who pursue further study can continue studying for a master’s degree.         Landscape Architecture

        The landscape architecture is an applied specialty that plans, designs, manages and researches human settlement by utilizing scientific, technological and artistic means in a comprehensive way. With the purpose of coordinating relations between human and the nature, it aims to protect and repair natural environment and builds artistic and healthy human settlement. As a comprehensive specialty, it is integrated with landscape planning and design, landscape planning and ecological repair, garden architecture design, tourism planning, landscape plant conservation and management, covering multiple fields such as landscape architecture, art, architecture, forestry, ecology and psychology. The courses of the specialty reflect the characteristics of “wide ranges of foundation, perfect in specialized knowledge and display of individuality”.

        Characteristics and advantages of the specialty: The specialty inherits advantages and highlights design: It gives full play to traditional advantages and highlights cultivation of students’ abilities in design of landscape gardens and landscape engineering. It lays emphasis on practice, and aims to provide services to Zhejiang. With the proportion of practical training of one third in the total credits, the specialty gives intensive training to operational ability of students, to cultivate engineering design and management talents serving for the landscape industry. The students of the specialty have excellent performance in Zhejiang Contest of Landscape Design by Undergraduates, and have been awarded with one first prize, five second prizes and five third prizes; in addition, the students of the specialty have been awarded with two patents.

        Employment prospects: The students of the specialty can work for environmental construction, rural revitalization, Beautiful China, the Large Garden of Zhejiang and future community construction and management, and can work on landscape planning and design, urban landscape design, architectural design, tourism planning, landscape engineering construction and supervision, preliminary budget for architecture, landscaping maintenance management, greening nursery tree marketing and garden therapy in enterprises and public institutions such as gardens, architecture, forestry, tourism, real estate and modern farms (forestry stations), with favorable employment prospects. The employment rate of the recent three years is 100%.

        Main courses: professional introduction, fine art, design basis, garden measurement, landscape dendrology, landscape planning and design, landscape ecological design, computer aided design, landscape planning and design, history of Chinese and foreign gardens, tourist attraction planning and design, landscape engineering, landscape construction and preliminary budget, garden architecture design, urban design and residential design. The practice system mainly includes: fine arts practice (Hangzhou), courtyard mapping practice (Hong Village, Anhui), urban gardening landscape practice (Hangzhou), ornamental trees and shrubs practice (Tianmu Mountains natural reserve), landscape architecture practice (Suzhou and Shanghai), landscape mapping practice and practice in design institutes.

        Transportation

        The specialty is an emerging specialty that is operated to cultivate senior applied talents for urban railway system for Zhejiang, to meet demands on modern transportation. Aiming at cultivating senior applied talents for transportation with “noble professional ethics, solid professional foundation, excellent comprehensive quality and strong innovative and practical abilities”, the specialty makes the students have favorable natural science foundation and humanity & social sciences accomplishment after study of four years; master basic theory and fundamental methods in the transportation field; own specialized knowledge and technologies of urban railway operation and management; have the abilities to work on transportation organization and management, vehicle dispatching and commanding, passenger services and operation, station yard facility and structure maintenance in the urban railway industry.

        Characteristics and advantages of the specialty: The talents of urban railway system are in great demand due to rapid development in the urban railway industry. Featured with urban railway system, the Transportation Specialty of the institute aims to cultivate the railway specialty talents that are urgently needed by the society, and the graduates have favorable employment prospects. The professional teaching can give full play to roles of cooperation between universities and enterprises, to cooperate with railway operation companies and establish practical teaching bases, to create the talent cultivation idea of “mutual construction and education” between universities and enterprises and “joint management, sharing and win” among universities, enterprises and students.
